Item Description
Seven mana for a 5/6 Giant is a fine deal on its own, but Galecaster Colossus is really a bounce engine with a body attached. Its ability costs no mana at all: tap an untapped Wizard you control to return target nonland permanent you don't control to its owner's hand. The Colossus is a Wizard itself, so it can always do this at least once, and every other Wizard on your board adds another bounce.
In a Wizard typal deck that adds up quickly. Opposing blockers vanish before combat, freshly cast threats go back to hand, and tokens bounced this way simply cease to exist. Because the cost is tapping a Wizard rather than the tap symbol, even Wizards that entered this turn can pitch in. It arrived in Commander 2017 alongside the Wizard-themed precon, and it still anchors spellcaster decks led by Inalla, Archmage Ritualist and other Wizard commanders.
This is the Commander 2017 printing, collector number 10, a rare illustrated by Darek Zabrocki, in non-foil. Its flavor text paints a grim shoreline: “Ground bones, broken glass, and splintered shipwrecks make up the sands of his shores.”
