Game + manual: the cartridge and its manual, no box. The manual is complete and intact, with visible handling wear. Look over the photos for condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

The tractor beam is the whole drama of Galaga. A Boss Galaga swoops low, a shimmering blue beam unfurls and your fighter is dragged up into the enemy formation. Lose a ship that way and you have a choice to make: shoot the boss while it holds your captured fighter and the two ships lock together side by side, doubling your firepower and doubling your size as a target. That single risk-and-reward idea is why Namco's 1981 arcade hit still pulls people back for one more credit.

The rest of the design is deceptively simple. Waves of insect-like enemies spiral onto the screen in looping patterns, settle into formation and then peel off to dive at you, sometimes in pairs, sometimes splitting apart mid-dive. Learning those attack patterns is where the depth lives. Every few stages a Challenging Stage interrupts the action, a bonus round where enemies fly elaborate patterns without firing and you try to clear every one of them for a perfect bonus. When the game ends, it reports your shots fired and your hit-miss ratio, a quietly brutal scorecard that invites another attempt.

Namco brought its own conversion to the Famicom in 1985, and North American players got it as Galaga: Demons of Death, with the subtitle added for the NES release. The port keeps the arcade's core loop intact: the formation swoops, the captured-fighter gamble and the Challenging Stages, and two players can trade turns chasing each other's scores.

As the sequel to Galaxian, Galaga sharpened the fixed-shooter formula into something faster, meaner and more satisfying, and it became one of the defining shooters of the golden age of arcades. On the NES it is a perfect pick-up-and-play cartridge, the kind you start for five minutes and keep playing for an hour, chasing that dual fighter and a better accuracy number than the last run.
