Item Description
Here is a bit of trivia that trips up collectors: this Frogger 2 is not a handheld version of Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge. It shipped in 2000 alongside that game, wearing the same cover art minus the subtitle, but it is an entirely different adventure built for the Game Boy Color by Game Titan and published by Majesco.
The familiar highways and rivers are still here, but the levels now scroll upward, with a little room to move side to side, so each stage plays more like a journey than a single screen to cross. Along the way you collect gems for points and extra lives, lean on restart points that catch you partway through tougher stretches, and meet characters who help you out, including Tadius, an older, wiser frog with advice on how to survive. You can play as Frogger or as Lillie Frog.
There are five worlds and 32 levels in all, and each world ends with a baby frog waiting to be rescued, five in total, which gives the hopping a sense of purpose the arcade original never needed. Timing and pattern reading still decide everything, but the longer stages and helper characters give it a gentle adventure feel that suits handheld play.
Frogger has been released in more forms than almost anyone can count, and this standalone Game Boy Color sequel is a curious, easily overlooked branch of that family tree, as well as a cheerful pick-up-and-play cartridge in its own right.

About the game
Frogger 2 is an extension of the original Frogger, making the levels containing the usual highways and rivers vertically scrolling, with limited side scrolling. Along the way from the bottom to the top of the level, you can collect gems and extra lives, and each level usually has one or more restart points. Along the way, your frog encounters and older, wiser frog called Tadius, who offers advice on strategy.
