Item Description
Fractured Identity is removal with a twist only a multiplayer format could produce. For five mana it exiles target nonland permanent, and then each player other than that permanent's controller creates a token copy of it. Point it at an opponent's best creature, artifact or planeswalker and they lose it while you gain a copy, and at a bigger table every other opponent gets one too.
In a one-on-one game that is a clean exile plus a steal, two cards' worth of value in one sorcery. In multiplayer it becomes a political tool: you choose which threat to break up, knowing everyone else benefits, which can turn rivals into temporary allies. The best targets are permanents whose value keeps compounding, like a mana engine, a card-draw artifact or a token maker, where your copy keeps paying off long after the original is gone. White-blue control and clone-themed decks put it to especially good use.
This is the Commander 2017 printing, where the card made its debut: collector number 37, illustrated by Yongjae Choi, in non-foil. Its flavor text, “Self-reflection is not without its perils,” suits a spell that turns one permanent into a hall of mirrors.
