Item Description
Some answers are worth holding up all game, and Force of Vigor is the kind you never have to hold mana for. On any turn that isn't yours, you can exile a green card from your hand in place of its four-mana cost and destroy up to two target artifacts and/or enchantments. That makes it a trap in the best sense: an opponent taps out for a game-winning artifact or a lock-piece enchantment, and the green player with no open mana still has the answer.
Modern Horizons introduced Force of Vigor in 2019 alongside four other Forces, each a free spell for its color, and the green one quickly found homes in decks that need to handle fast mana and combo engines. In Commander its two-for-one reach matters even more, since a single card can take out a mana rock and a value enchantment in one shot. Cast normally for four mana on your own turn, it is still solid removal.
This is the original Modern Horizons printing, collector number 164, illustrated by Randy Vargas, in non-foil. Its flavor text, “The vines overgrew the construct, snapping gears and soaking up aether,” captures the card's quiet, inevitable destruction.
