Chikorita, Cyndaquil or Totodile? Snivy, Tepig or Oshawott? Grookey, Scorbunny or Sobble? The First Partner Illustration Collection (Series 2) is about those decisions, the moment every trainer remembers from the start of their journey. Released in September 2025 under the banner of 30 years of first partner Pokémon, Series 2 celebrates the starters of Johto, Unova and Galar.
Those three regions span a lot of playtime: Gold and Silver on the Game Boy Color, Black and White on the DS, and Sword and Shield on the Switch. The collection's promo cards use an illustration rare style, the full-scene artwork that modern collectors love, showing these starters in their own little worlds rather than boxed into a standard frame. Cyndaquil's flames and Sobble's nervous expression are the kind of art that rewards a closer look.
Its promos rotate across all nine first partners, so opening the collection becomes a reveal of which starters you found and a natural excuse to trade with friends toward the full lineup. Booster packs add the familiar thrill of pack opening on top of the art-focused promos.
Series 2 is the companion to Series 1, which covers Kanto, Sinnoh and Alola. Together they tell the story of first partners across six generations of Pokémon, and they look fantastic displayed side by side.
