Item Condition

Complete in box: the cartridge, the manual and the box, all original; anything beyond that is included only if you can see it in the photos. The label is clean, the manual is crisp and intact, and the case shows only minor shelf scuffing. Look over the photos for condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

Fire Emblem Fates opens with an impossible choice. Corrin, born into the royal family of Hoshido but raised behind castle walls by the rival kingdom of Nohr, learns the truth just as the two nations slide into war and must decide which family to stand with. Birthright is the path home. Corrin sides with Hoshido and the siblings who never forgot them: the swordsman Ryoma, the sky knight Hinoka, the archer Takumi and the gentle healer Sakura.

This is the route Intelligent Systems built for players who like room to breathe. As in Awakening, optional battles appear on the map between chapters, so you can level a favorite unit, earn gold and try out a new class pairing without pressure. Most chapters ask you to rout the enemy or defeat a commander, and the difficulty curve rises steadily rather than sharply. Classic mode keeps the series' permanent character loss, Casual mode lets fallen allies return after the battle, and Fates introduced Phoenix mode for players who simply want the story.

Underneath that welcoming structure sits a smartly reworked battle system. The weapon triangle expands to pit swords and tomes against axes and bows, axes and bows against lances and shuriken, and lances and shuriken against swords and tomes. Weapons no longer break, so their trade-offs come from stat penalties and side effects instead of durability. Pair Up splits into Attack Stance and Guard Stance, Dragon Veins let royal characters reshape the battlefield, and Hoshido's Japanese-inspired classes, from samurai and ninja to oni savages and diviners, give the army a look all its own. Between chapters your My Castle hub lets you build facilities, chat with units and deepen the support conversations that eventually bring their children into the fight.

Yusuke Kozaki's character designs and Azura's haunting song, Lost in Thoughts All Alone, tie the whole Fates project together, and Birthright is the most natural place to begin it. Released in the West as a standalone cartridge alongside Conquest, with the third path, Revelation, offered later as download content, it tells the Hoshidan side of the story with warmth and a manageable challenge. Start here, then cross the border to Nohr and see the same war from the other side.

About the game

Fire Emblem Fates is split into three story paths. Birthright is one of the two base stories, the other being Conquest. The other story path can be bought digitally at a discount through the in-game store. The third story path is Revelation, a DLC that was released later. You need to be have completed Chapter 6 in either game to access the other stories and DLC. Birthright is the easier path as it has the ability to use scouting missions to grind experience and money and simpler mission objectives.
