Item Description
How much life are you willing to spend? Fire Covenant asks that question every time you cast it, and the answer can wipe out an opponent's entire board. As an additional cost you pay X life, and it deals X damage divided as you choose among any number of target creatures.
That's a one-sided, instant-speed sweeper in a three-mana black-red package. Pay a little to snipe a single threat, or pay a lot to clear out a whole army in the middle of combat while your own creatures stay untouched. In Commander, where you start with 40 life, the cost is much easier to swallow, which is why Rakdos and Mardu players keep it close. First printed in Planar Chaos, it has been a go-to removal spell for black-red players ever since.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 271, a borderless showcase-frame card illustrated by Rovina Cai, offered here in non-foil. Secret Lair gives familiar staples a fresh look, and new artwork on a spell this ruthless makes it a striking centerpiece for a Rakdos deck or binder.
