Item Description

“Listen to my story. This may be our last chance.” Final Fantasy X opens with Tidus beside a campfire outside a ruined city, then rewinds to the night his whole world ended, when a colossal creature called Sin tore through his home of Zanarkand and flung him into a strange land a thousand years removed. That land is Spira, and the journey he joins there, guarding the young summoner Yuna on a pilgrimage to defeat Sin, is one of the most moving stories the series has told.

It was also the series' first big leap into fully voiced 3D, and it still feels distinctive to play. The Conditional Turn-Based battle system shows exactly who will act next, so every fight becomes a small puzzle, and you can swap party members in mid-battle to bring Wakka's ball against flying enemies or Lulu's black magic against armored ones. Characters grow across the Sphere Grid, a sprawling board of abilities that lets you steer each one in new directions, while Yuna's aeons join the fight as summoned allies. Then there is blitzball, the underwater sport that some players treat as a second game entirely.

The supporting cast is superb: the stoic warrior Auron, the cheerful Wakka, the cool-headed Lulu, the quiet Ronso guardian Kimahri and the bubbly Al Bhed Rikku. Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu and Junya Nakano's soundtrack carries everything from the gentle melancholy of the hymn to the pounding boss themes. This HD Remaster is based on the International version previously released only in Japan and Europe, which brings in extra content such as the optional Expert Sphere Grid and the punishing Dark Aeons.

The Vita edition packaged FFX with its sequel, Final Fantasy X-2, in a single release, but on Vita the cartridge itself holds Final Fantasy X, with X-2 originally supplied separately as a download. That makes this card, first and foremost, a portable Final Fantasy X: Spira's full pilgrimage, from Besaid's beaches to the ruins of Zanarkand, in a form you can carry. Few remasters suit a handheld this well, and few JRPGs earn their ending the way this one does.
