Item Description

"Listen to my story. This may be our last chance." Final Fantasy X opens near the end, with Tidus and his companions gathered around a campfire outside a ruined city, and then rewinds to show how a star blitzball player from a glowing metropolis called Zanarkand was swallowed by a monster named Sin and thrown into Spira, a world where his home has been a ruin for a thousand years. There he meets Yuna, a young summoner beginning a pilgrimage to defeat Sin, and joins her guardians, Wakka, Lulu, Kimahri, the stoic Auron and later the irrepressible Rikku, on a journey whose real cost only becomes clear as it unfolds.

The battle system is one of the best Square ever built. Conditional Turn-Based combat shows the turn order on screen, so every action becomes a small tactical decision, and you can swap any party member in mid-fight to bring the right specialist forward. Characters grow across the Sphere Grid, a huge board of stat and ability nodes that lets you push each fighter down a path of your own choosing. Aeons are summoned and controlled directly in battle, Overdrives add flashy finishers, and blitzball is a surprisingly deep underwater sports minigame that has swallowed many hours of many players' lives.

Final Fantasy X was the series' first entry with full voice acting and fully 3D environments, and its score by Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu and Junya Nakano gave the world "To Zanarkand" and "Suteki da ne." The HD Remaster is built on the expanded International version, which adds the Expert Sphere Grid, the Dark Aeons and the Penance superboss, and it features a rearranged soundtrack.

On PS Vita, released in Japan in late 2013 and in the West in 2014, Spira travels with you, which suits a game this long and this generous with side content. Save data can be carried between the Vita and PS3 versions, and the handheld is a natural home for the monster hunting, Celestial Weapon quests and blitzball tournaments that keep the game going long after the main story ends.
