Item Description

Some cards win games by attacking. Felidar Sovereign can win simply by surviving. At the beginning of your upkeep, if you have 40 or more life, you win the game, and this six-mana 4/6 brings vigilance and lifelink to help you get there, gaining life every time it deals damage while still standing guard.

That alternate win condition is especially spicy in Commander, where everyone starts at 40 life. Resolve it before you have taken any damage and you are threatening to win on your very next upkeep, which forces the entire table to deal with the cat immediately. Lifegain decks love it as a finisher, and steady sources of life gain turn every turn it survives into a ticking clock for your opponents. It first appeared in Zendikar in 2009 and has anchored lifegain strategies ever since.

This is the Secret Lair Drop printing from the Look at the Kitties drop, collector number 1182, a borderless card illustrated by Tatamepi, in foil. The drop gave the regal felidar a cat-lover's makeover, and the flavor text plays right along: "Kneel before her Impurrial Meowjesty, Pawlina von Whiskerface III. It makes it much easier to give her pets."
