Magic: The Gathering single: Fatespinner, from Mystery Booster Retail Edition Foils. Our grade: Lightly Played or better. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Fatespinner hands each opponent a menu of bad options. At the beginning of every opponent's upkeep, that player chooses their draw step, main phase or combat phase, and they skip each instance of it that turn. No card draw, no spells and land drops, or no attacks: pick one.
For three mana, that little 1/2 Human Wizard puts real pressure on any game plan. Aggressive opponents usually give up their draw, control players give up combat, and everyone feels the squeeze. It slots into blue tempo and stax-style decks that want to slow the table down while they build toward a win, and in multiplayer Commander it taxes every opponent at once. Because players hate living under it, it also draws removal away from the threats you actually care about.
This is the Mystery Booster Retail Edition foil printing. Fatespinner first appeared in Mirrodin in 2003 with art by rk post, and Mystery Booster brought it back in 2020, with retail-edition packs carrying a foil slot that reprinted cards like this one with a shiny finish. Its original Mirrodin flavor text captures the card's eerie focus: "No one knows what she is watching, but she never takes her eyes off it."
