Item Description
Anton Castillo never needs to raise his voice. Played by Giancarlo Esposito with the same quiet menace he brought to Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, the dictator of Yara is grooming his teenage son Diego to inherit a regime built on fear, and Far Cry 6 hands you the job of tearing it down. Ubisoft Toronto's 2021 entry trades the Montana backcountry of Far Cry 5 for a sun-drenched Caribbean island inspired by Cuba, a tropical nation frozen in time with vintage cars, tobacco fields and a capital, Esperanza, under the boot of the military.
You play as Dani Rojas, a former soldier who can be male or female, and who joins Libertad, the guerrilla movement led by Clara García. The game leans hard into the improvised spirit of a ragtag revolution. Resolver weapons are cobbled together from scrap and spare parts, ranging from practical to gleefully absurd, and Supremo backpacks add a heavy-hitting special such as a rocket barrage or an emergency heal. Guerrilla camps give you a base to upgrade, and you can send recruits out on their own operations across the island.
Then there are the Amigos. Guapo the crocodile tears into enemy patrols, Chicharrón the rooster is far fiercer than he has any right to be, and Chorizo, a tiny dachshund in a wheelchair, distracts guards with sheer cuteness. Far Cry 6 also shifts to a third-person view for cutscenes and camp downtime, so Dani is a visible character in the story rather than a voice behind the camera, and the whole campaign was designed with two-player co-op in mind.
Far Cry has always been at its best when it hands you an outpost and lets you decide how to take it, and Yara is a massive sandbox for exactly that: horseback raids, stealthy approaches through the cane fields, or a tank rolling down the streets of Esperanza. With Esposito anchoring the villain's role, it is the entry that puts the most star power behind the series' trademark mix of politics and mayhem.
