Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Sneak a cheap flier past the blockers, pay four mana, and swap it for a 5/4 Zombie Ninja that is already attacking. That is ninjutsu, and Fallen Shinobi might be the most rewarding card to pull the trick with. When it deals combat damage to a player, that player exiles the top two cards of their library, and until end of turn you may play those cards without paying their mana costs.
Casting an opponent's spells for free is as fun as Magic gets, and a single hit can hand you anything from a removal spell to a creature that outclasses everything on the board. Commander players slot it into blue-black Ninja decks led by Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow, and it fits any deck built on evasive or unblockable attackers. Ninjutsu also returns the attacker to your hand, which lets creatures with enter-the-battlefield abilities be recast for more value. And if the sneak attack isn't available, a five-mana hard cast keeps it from ever sitting dead in hand.
This is the Modern Horizons printing, collector number 199, illustrated by Tomasz Jedruszek, in non-foil. Modern Horizons arrived in 2019 as a set of brand-new cards that skipped Standard entirely, and it gave the ninjutsu mechanic from Betrayers of Kamigawa a flashy new payoff.
