Item Description
Ethereal Investigator is a ghost detective that scales with the size of the table. This four-mana 2/3 Spirit flies, and when it enters you investigate once for each opponent, creating a Clue token per opponent. In a four-player Commander game that is three Clues the moment it lands, and each one can be cracked for two mana to draw a card.
Those Clues also feed its second ability. Whenever you draw your second card each turn, you create a 1/1 white Spirit token with flying. Cracking a Clue on your own turn after your regular draw is an easy way to hit that trigger, and any extra draw effect keeps a stream of flying Spirits coming. It is a smart blend of card advantage and board presence that rewards blue decks built around drawing extra cards.
This is the Crimson Vow Commander printing, illustrated by Sean Murray, in non-foil. It debuted in Innistrad: Crimson Vow's Commander decks in 2021, where its spooky mix of Clues and Spirits fit the Spirit-themed deck perfectly.
