Item Description
Erebos does not care how much life you have left, only that your opponents never get any back. The God of the Dead is an indestructible four-mana enchantment that switches off lifegain for every opponent, and it hands you a card engine on top: pay one generic, one black and 2 life to draw a card, as often as your mana allows. Reach five devotion to black among your permanents and it also becomes a 5/7 creature that destroy effects can't touch.
That mix makes Erebos a natural fit for mono-black and black-heavy Commander decks, where a 40-life starting total turns paying life into a cheap resource, and it quietly dismantles lifelink and lifegain plans across the table. Even when it isn't a creature, it keeps working every turn, which is exactly what you want from a god.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 74, illustrated by Jason A. Engle, in foil. It comes from Theros Stargazing: Vol. III (Erebos), part of the five-volume Stargazing series from 2020 that gave the gods of Theros a showcase, star-filled treatment in the spirit of Nyx, and the foil finish suits that night-sky theme.
