Item Description
Emry, Lurker of the Loch is the kind of small, strange creature that makes artifact players grin. Affinity for artifacts can bring its cost all the way down to a single blue mana, and when it enters it mills four cards, stocking your graveyard with exactly the fuel its tap ability wants. Tap Emry and choose an artifact card in your graveyard: you may cast it this turn, still paying its normal costs.
The magic happens with artifacts that sacrifice themselves. Cheap cantrip artifacts such as Chromatic Star or Mishra's Bauble can be cast, cracked and recast turn after turn, and anything you lose to removal can be rebuilt. As a mono-blue commander Emry leads a tight artifact-recursion deck, and in the 99 of other artifact-focused blue decks it quietly turns the graveyard into a second hand. The 1/2 body is not the point; the loop is.
This is the Secret Lair 30th Anniversary Countdown Kit printing, collector number 2019, a borderless foil illustrated by Brandi Milne. The Countdown Kit celebrated Magic's 30th birthday with one card for each year of the game's history, and Emry stands in for 2019, the year Throne of Eldraine introduced it.
