Item Description
Becoming the monarch is a gift with a target painted on it: you draw an extra card at the end of each of your turns, but anyone who connects with you in combat steals the crown. Emberwilde Captain is red's answer to that problem. The moment this Djinn Pirate lands, you take the crown, and from then on every opponent who attacks you while you hold it takes damage equal to the number of cards in their hand.
That makes the whole table do awkward math. A player sitting on a full grip either empties their hand before swinging or eats a nasty hit for the privilege, and in multiplayer Commander that hesitation can buy you turn after turn of extra cards. The 4/2 body for four mana is aggressive enough to pressure opponents on its own, and the Captain slots neatly into red decks that like monarch effects, punish attackers, or simply want a steady stream of card advantage without leaving the color.
This is the Commander Legends extended-art printing, collector number 664, illustrated by Tyler Walpole, offered here in non-foil. Commander Legends was the 2020 draft set built around multiplayer play, so it is fitting that this rare turns table politics into a weapon.
