Item Description
Elvish Harbinger does two jobs that every Elf deck needs. When it enters, you may search your library for an Elf card and put it on top, setting up your next draw with exactly the lord, payoff or combo piece you want. After that it taps for one mana of any color, fixing your mana in multicolor Elf decks and helping you deploy the creature it just found.
That tutor-plus-mana package keeps the three-mana 1/2 relevant in Elf tribal Commander decks and casual builds alike. It can grab a commander-level payoff, a mass-pump finisher or a card-draw engine, and in decks that run Elf-type noncreature cards it can find those too.
This is the Duel Decks: Elves vs. Goblins printing, collector number 4, illustrated by Larry MacDougall, in non-foil. Elves vs. Goblins launched the Duel Decks series in 2007, pairing two ready-to-play tribal decks in one box, and Harbinger was part of the green half. MacDougall's art carries the folkloric feel of Lorwyn, where the card first appeared.
