Item Description
In November 1999, a ticket to Pokémon: The First Movie in American theaters came with a card, and Electabuzz was one of the four Wizards Black Star Promos handed out. For kids who had already memorized the original 151, that was a big deal, and this card is a direct link to that moment of peak Pokémon fever.
The card itself is classic early-era design. Electabuzz is a 60 HP Basic Lightning Pokémon illustrated by Ken Sugimori, the artist behind the original games' official Pokémon artwork. Its Light Screen attack halves the damage done to Electabuzz during your opponent's next turn, and Quick Attack hits for 10, or 30 if your coin flip lands heads. Simple, scrappy and full of personality, it plays exactly like the Electric-type bruiser fans knew from Red and Blue.
This is Wizards Black Star Promo number 2. The English movie promo was marked with a gold foil stamp reading “Kids' WB Presents Pokémon The First Movie,” tying the card to its theatrical debut, which makes it a cornerstone for a WotC-era promo binder.
