Item Description
A seven-mana black Dragon that makes your opponent pitch a card the moment it lands is an old-school threat in the best sense: no tricks, just a 5/4 flier and a parting shot at the enemy's hand. When Ebon Dragon enters the battlefield, you may have target opponent discard a card, so even if it is answered right away, it has already traded for something.
That enters-the-battlefield trigger is where the fun lives in casual and Commander play. Blink effects, reanimation and Dragon-tribal decks can all squeeze repeat value from it, and in black-heavy Dragon decks it tops off the curve with a body that pressures life totals from the air. It plays exactly the way a big dragon from Magic's early years should: land it, strip a card, start swinging.
This is the From the Vault: Dragons printing, collector number 6, illustrated by Donato Giancola, in foil. From the Vault: Dragons launched Wizards' From the Vault line in 2008 with fifteen foil Dragons drawn from across Magic's history, and Ebon Dragon, first printed in the beginner-friendly Portal set, earns its spot in that lineup beside far more famous names. Its flavor text borrows a line from Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida, a gloriously theatrical touch for a creature summoned out of the dark.
