One general, a thousand enemy soldiers and a battlefield stretching across ancient China. Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition gathers the full Dynasty Warriors 8 campaign and its Xtreme Legends expansion in one PS4 package, telling the story of the Three Kingdoms through some of Omega Force's most satisfying crowd-clearing action.

Story Mode follows the kingdoms of Wei, Wu and Shu, along with the rise of Jin, through key battles of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms era. Dynasty Warriors 8 introduced hypothetical routes that let each kingdom rewrite history if you meet certain conditions, and Xtreme Legends adds many more of these what-if scenarios, along with a full storyline for the fearsome Lu Bu, finally playable at the center of his own tale.

The combat system rewards more than button mashing. Weapons fall into Heaven, Earth and Man affinities, and catching an enemy officer at an affinity disadvantage opens the way to devastating Storm Rush combos, while Switch Counters let you swap weapons mid-fight to punish an opponent. Musou attacks clear entire crowds, and Rage Mode lets you unleash an even more powerful assault when your gauge is full. Ambition Mode lets you build up a stronghold by recruiting allies and gathering resources between battles, while the new Challenge Mode tests your skill with dedicated score-attack style events.

Released in the PS4's first months, the Complete Edition brought the series to the new console early, and it supports local two-player split-screen, so a friend can take a second officer onto the same battlefield. With new characters, new weapon types and growth and speedrun elements layered on by Xtreme Legends, this is Dynasty Warriors 8 in its fullest form, with the base campaign and the expansion side by side.
