Item Description
The first night in Harran teaches you everything. By day the quarantined city is dangerous but manageable, a maze of rooftops where you can outrun the slow, shambling infected. Then the sun goes down, the Volatiles come out, and every rooftop becomes a desperate sprint toward the nearest safe zone with a UV flashlight in your hand and something very fast behind you.
You play Kyle Crane, a Global Relief Effort operative dropped into Harran to recover a sensitive file from the warlord Rais, who quickly finds himself torn between the agency that sent him and the survivors of the Tower who keep him alive. Techland built the whole game around movement: Crane can climb nearly anything, vault, slide and leap between buildings, and the parkour flows so well that getting from one side of the slums to the other is a pleasure in itself. Weapons break and get rebuilt from scavenged parts and blueprints, so a rusty pipe can become an electrified machete with enough scrap and duct tape, and the late-game grappling hook turns the skyline into your playground.
The Platinum Edition gathers the expansions that grew the game well beyond its 2015 launch. The Following moves the action out to the countryside and puts you behind the wheel of a drivable buggy, The Bozak Horde adds challenge arenas, and Hellraid swaps the zombie apocalypse for a dark fantasy dungeon crawl. Add the extra skins and bonus content and it is a huge amount of game on a single system.
The Switch version was widely praised as one of the console's most impressive ports, holding a steady 30 frames per second during big infected crowds and playing comfortably in handheld mode, with cuts to texture detail and crowd sizes that are easy to forget mid-chase. It is the full Harran experience in a form you can play on the go, and a fine way to see the open-world zombie game that set the stage for Dying Light 2.
