Item Description

Every attack is a free spell with Dreadhorde Arcanist. This two-mana red Zombie Wizard is a 1/3 with trample, and whenever it attacks you may cast an instant or sorcery card from your graveyard with mana value up to its power, without paying its mana cost. The recast spell is exiled afterward, but by then it has already done its job.

At base power that means replaying your one-mana spells: a Lightning Bolt to the face, a Brainstorm to dig deeper, a cheap removal spell to clear a blocker. Anything that pumps its power opens up a bigger menu, which is why spell-heavy red decks love it in both constructed and Commander. It rewards careful sequencing and makes every cheap instant in your graveyard feel like a second card.

Dreadhorde Arcanist first appeared in War of the Spark. This is the Time Spiral Remastered retro-frame printing, collector number 341, illustrated by G-host Lee, in non-foil. It comes from the set's timeshifted bonus sheet, which dressed modern cards in Magic's pre-2003 frame, so a 2019 design gets an old-school look.
