Pokémon TCG single: Dragonite (Movie Promo) - WoTC Promo, from Pokemon Promo Cards. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.

Item Description

In Mewtwo Strikes Back, it is a Dragonite that flies through the storm to carry Mewtwo's invitations, and this card is the Pokémon TCG's tribute to that scene. Dragonite is Wizards of the Coast Black Star Promo number 5, one of four promos handed out with tickets to Pokémon: The First Movie when it opened in American theaters in November 1999.

The card itself plays its messenger role. Its Pokémon Power, Special Delivery, lets you draw a card once during your turn before attacking, as long as you then put a card from your hand on top of your deck. Its attack, Supersonic Flight, hits for 60 for three Colorless Energy, but only if you win a coin flip. It is a 90 HP Stage 2 evolving from Dragonair, illustrated by Toshinao Aoki, and most English copies carry a gold foil stamp reading "Kids' WB Presents Pokémon The First Movie."

For anyone who stood in line for that film, this is a direct link to the height of the original Pokémon craze, and it is a cornerstone of any Wizards-era promo binder or Dragonite collection.
