Item Description
Dragonair has an air of calm mystery that few middle evolutions can match: a long serpentine body, small wings at its head and crystal orbs that, according to the games, give it a connection to the weather. The Pokédex text on this card plays on that idea, describing a Pokémon whose aura can change the weather in an instant and that is said to live in seas and lakes.
In play, this Dragon-type Stage 1 evolves from Dratini and has 70 HP. Tail Whap hits for 20 with two Colorless Energy, while Dragon Pulse deals 70 for a Grass, Lightning and Colorless cost, at the price of discarding the top card of your deck. That mixed Energy cost is a signature of the Black & White-era Dragon type, which asked players to blend colors to unleash its strongest attacks.
Dragon Vault was a 20-card special set released in 2012, built entirely around Dragon-type Pokémon, which the TCG had introduced that same year in Dragons Exalted. This is Dragonair, card 3/20, illustrated by Hajime Kusajima and offered here in foil, a graceful link between Dratini and Dragonite on any Dratini-line binder page.
