Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Commander 2017 was the tribal year, with preconstructed decks built around Dragons, Cats, Vampires and Wizards, which made it a natural home for a reprint of Door of Destinies. The card is the kind of engine every one of those decks wants: name a creature type as it enters, and every spell of that type you cast puts a charge counter on the Door. Each counter gives your creatures of the chosen type +1/+1, and the counters never go away.
That makes it a slow-building anthem with no ceiling. A Dragon deck turns its already big flyers into finishers, a Wizard deck that chains cheap spellcasters grows a little army in a hurry, and changeling creatures count as every type, so they feed the Door no matter what you named. Because it is a colorless artifact, it works in any color identity and stays useful after a sweeper wipes the board, since the counters live on the Door rather than on your creatures.
Door of Destinies first appeared in Morningtide, the class-focused follow-up to Lorwyn. This is the Commander 2017 printing, collector number 208, illustrated by Larry MacDougall, in non-foil.
