Item Description
Doom Weaver turns your creatures' deaths into card draw. The 1/8 Spider Horror has reach and soulbond, so you can pair it with another creature when either one enters. While they are paired, each of them gains "When this creature dies, draw cards equal to its power." Pair it with your biggest creature and losing that creature stops being a disaster and starts being a refill.
The design invites mischief. Sacrifice outlets let you choose exactly when the big creature dies and cash it in for a fistful of cards, and pump effects make each death even more rewarding. Meanwhile its eight toughness and reach make the Weaver itself an excellent blocker against fliers and ground attackers alike. Soulbond first appeared in Avacyn Restored back in 2012, and Doom Weaver gives the mechanic a black, card-drawing twist.
Doom Weaver debuted in Crimson Vow Commander in 2021, and this is the Crimson Vow Commander printing, illustrated by Helge C. Balzer, in non-foil. Balzer's eerie, many-legged horror is a perfect fit for the gothic Innistrad setting, and the card makes a creepy, card-drawing centerpiece for black creature and sacrifice decks.
