Magic: The Gathering single: Divinity of Pride, from Commander 2013. Our grade: Lightly Played or better. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
In a Commander game, where everyone starts at 40 life, Divinity of Pride usually enters as an 8/8 flier with lifelink. Its base body is a 4/4 with flying and lifelink, and it gets +4/+4 as long as you have 25 or more life. Each hit pushes your life total higher, which keeps the bonus switched on and turns a race into a one-sided affair.
The cost is all hybrid white-black mana, five symbols that can each be paid with either color, so in a regular constructed deck it can be cast with five Plains, five Swamps or any mix of the two. In Commander, hybrid symbols count toward both colors of the card's identity, which makes it a natural fit for Orzhov decks that love gaining life and closing games in the air. Life-gain commanders and decks full of lifelink creatures help keep you comfortably above that 25-life threshold.
Divinity of Pride first appeared in Eventide in 2008 as part of a cycle of hybrid Spirit Avatars, and this is the Commander 2013 printing, collector number 228, illustrated by Greg Staples, in non-foil. Staples' imposing, otherworldly figure suits a card that dominates the skies, making this an easy pick for a white-black deck that wants a large finisher.
