Magic: The Gathering single: Dire Undercurrents. Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Dire Undercurrents is a five-mana enchantment that rewards you just for playing creatures. Whenever a blue creature you control enters, you may have target player draw a card; whenever a black creature you control enters, you may have target player discard a card. A creature that's both blue and black triggers both halves.
The targeting is the clever part. Point the draw at yourself and the discard at an opponent, and every Dimir creature that enters draws you a card while stripping one from someone else's hand. Because its colored mana is hybrid blue-or-black, it also slots into mono-blue or mono-black decks, where it becomes either a steady card-draw engine or a relentless discard engine. Flicker effects, token makers that produce blue or black creatures, and plenty of cheap creatures all multiply its value over a long Commander game.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 1578★, a borderless, full-art rainbow foil illustrated by Josh Newton & Scott Okumura. The poster-style full-art layout gives a sneaky utility enchantment the presence of a print you'd want on the wall.
