Item Description

Digimon World: Next Order asks you to do something most monster RPGs never bother with: actually raise your partners. That means feeding them when they're hungry, getting them to a bathroom in time, letting them rest when they're worn out and hauling them to the gym, and it means watching them age, pass on and return as Digi-Eggs to start a new life. The care is constant, a little demanding, and the reason the bond with your Digimon feels earned.

The story drops a high-school student, Takuto or Shiki depending on your pick, into a Digital World under attack by rampaging Machinedramon. Jijimon's town of Floatia has emptied out, and much of the adventure is spent tracking down Digimon across the world and convincing them to move in. Each recruit restores a shop, a service or a facility that makes the next generation of training easier, a slow and satisfying loop of rebuilding that recalls File City in the original PlayStation Digimon World.

Next Order's big change from that classic is a pair of partners instead of one. They fight on their own in real time while you stand on the field shouting commands, cheering them on and spending Order Points on special moves, and when both are strong enough they can fuse through ExE into a single, far more powerful form. With over 200 Digimon and evolutions shaped by stats, weight, discipline and care mistakes, every raising cycle plays out a little differently, and chasing a specific Mega becomes a project you plan generations ahead.

First released on PlayStation Vita in Japan and on PlayStation 4 in the West, the game reached Switch in 2023 under its International Edition name, adding a new Beginner Mode for players easing into its demanding care system and the ability to run while exploring. Those touches matter in a game this hands-on, and portable play suits its rhythm of short training sessions perfectly. The Switch release is the friendliest way into the most ambitious raising game the Digimon World line has produced.
