Item Description
Tutors usually make you pay in life, cards or tempo. Diabolic Intent makes you pay with a creature, and for a lot of black decks that's the best deal on offer. Two mana, sacrifice a creature as you cast it, and search your library for any card to put into your hand.
The trick is choosing what to sacrifice. A token, a creature whose death trigger you want anyway, or a blocker that has already done its job all convert into whatever card wins the game for you: your combo piece, your board wipe, or the engine your commander is built around. Sacrifice-themed Commander decks get double value, since the creature dying also feeds their death payoffs. It has been around since Prophecy, and it still ranks among the most efficient two-mana tutors black can play.
This is the Battlebond printing, collector number 141, illustrated by Josu Hernaiz, in non-foil. Battlebond was the 2018 set built around Two-Headed Giant, where teammates play as one, and its reprint brought fresh art to a long-standing black favorite.
