Item Description
When Tanjiro Kamado’s water techniques fail him against Rui on Natagumo Mountain, he remembers his father’s ritual dance and flames pour from his blade. The Hinokami Chronicles takes its name from that moment, and it understands exactly why it hits so hard. CyberConnect2, the studio behind the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm series, built this 2021 arena fighter to look and move like Ufotable’s anime come to life, and on screen it gets remarkably close.
Solo Mode follows Tanjiro’s story from the first season of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba through the Mugen Train arc as he fights to turn his sister Nezuko back into a human. It mixes light exploration with story fights and set-piece boss battles that recreate the series’ biggest confrontations, building to Kyojuro Rengoku’s stand on the Mugen Train. The anime’s Japanese and English voice casts carry the cutscenes, so those scenes land with the performances fans already know.
Versus Mode is where it lasts. Players build two-fighter teams from the roster and take on the CPU or each other, side by side on the couch or online. Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke, Giyu Tomioka and Rengoku are among the launch fighters, and the lineup also includes playful versions of the cast from the Kimetsu Academy spin-off. The controls are deliberately simple, so Breathing techniques and special moves come out with a couple of buttons, and the reward is how spectacular every exchange looks.
Reviews ran mixed to positive across platforms, but the Xbox Series X|S version earned the best Metacritic score of the lot, and the game went on to sell millions worldwide and earn a sequel in 2025. If the Mugen Train arc left you wrecked, this is a chance to fight your way through it yourself on the console where the game reviewed best.
