Item Description

A one-mana creature that both ramps and shuts off counterspells is exactly the kind of card Commander players fall for. Delighted Halfling is a 1/2 Halfling Citizen that taps for colorless mana, or for one mana of any color that can be spent only to cast a legendary spell, and a legendary spell cast with that mana can't be countered.

In a format where your commander is a legendary spell you cast again and again, that second ability is a quiet superpower. It helps fix the colors for your commander, then makes sure a blue opponent can't simply counter it when you recast it later. Legends-matter decks, and any list leaning on legendary creatures, planeswalkers or artifacts, get even more mileage. As a green one-drop that ramps on turn two, it sits alongside the classic mana elves with a trick none of them have.

This is The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth printing, collector number 158, illustrated by Inka Schulz, in non-foil. The Universes Beyond set brought Tolkien's world to Magic, and Delighted Halfling captures the Shire's festive side, with flavor text drawn from the marvelous toys the hobbit children receive at Bilbo's farewell party.
