Item Description

Not every hunting game wants you sitting quietly in a blind for twenty minutes waiting for a buck to wander past. Deer Drive goes the other way entirely, treating the woods like an arcade shooting gallery where targets keep coming and the only thing that matters is how fast and how accurately you can point. Developed in Japan by Kouyousha and brought to North America by Mastiff, the small publisher behind oddball imports like Gurumin, it is about as far from a hardcore simulation as the genre gets.

Aiming with the Wii Remote pointer is the whole game, and it makes Deer Drive easy to hand to someone who rarely picks up a controller. Stages are short, scoring is straightforward and chasing a better result is the main hook, while not every animal in the forest is content to stay a target. Multiplayer turns it into a quick-draw contest for game night, with friends trading the remote and arguing over who missed the easy shot.

Deer Drive is unpretentious, a little goofy and best enjoyed in short bursts, and that is what makes it fun. It is a slice of the Wii's crowded pointer-shooter catalog from a publisher that specialized in the unusual, and a cheerful pick for Wii completionists and anyone who likes their hunting games fast.
