Game only: the cartridge in a protective holder, no box or manual. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

Not every NES cartridge was made to be beaten, and Color a Dinosaur doesn't even pretend. It's an electronic coloring book for children ages 3 to 6: choose one of sixteen dinosaurs and fill in the outline with bright colors and patterns, either steering a pencil freely around the picture or letting the game pick each region while you choose the color. There are no enemies, no score and no way to lose.

That gentle simplicity is exactly what makes it such a conversation piece today. FarSight Studios built it on a modest budget, and Virgin Games released it in 1993, late in the NES's life, yet it carries some surprising names. The music is by Tommy Tallarico, later known for Earthworm Jim and Video Games Live, and designer Jay Obernolte, FarSight's founder, went on to serve in the U.S. Congress.

Nintendo Power once placed it on a list of the worst games of all time, calling it “Mario Paint without anything fun in it,” a verdict that has only made it more of a cult curiosity. Collectors chasing the full North American NES library will find few stops odder, and for a very young player it's still a calm, friendly first taste of a classic console.
