Complete in box: the cartridge, the manual and the box, all original; anything beyond that is included only if you can see it in the photos. Look over the photos for condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

Forget starfighters: in Cloud Master, the hero takes to the sky on a cloud. Mike Chen rides it through a scrolling world inspired by Chinese myth and folklore, firing energy balls at a parade of flying oddities that feel closer to a storybook than a sci-fi shooter. The game began as Hot-B's 1988 arcade release Chuka Taisen, published by Taito, and Sega brought it to the Master System in 1989 in a conversion by Opera House.

Underneath the whimsy sits a classic arcade shooter. Power-ups boost both the strength and the speed of Mike's shots, so a run builds steadily from a modest pea-shooter to a screen-clearing barrage, and each stage builds to a mini-boss and then a main boss, giving every level two showdowns instead of one. The mythological setting shapes the enemy designs and backgrounds, and it gives Cloud Master a personality that stands apart from the space shooters crowding store shelves at the time.

The idea had more staying power than most players realize: Cloud Master was remade for the Wii in 2008 as The Monkey King: The Legend Begins, two decades after the original hit arcades. On the Master System it offers a colorful, lighthearted change of pace from lasers and asteroids, a shooter where the hero's ride is a cloud instead of a spaceship, and a fun reminder of how many unusual arcade conversions found their way onto Sega's 8-bit console.
