Our grade: Lightly Played. For the specifics, look to the photos — they're of this exact card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Clefairy is number 5 of 102 in the original Base Set and one of its sixteen holofoil rares, the shiny cards that turned opening a pack of the first English Pokémon set in 1999 into an event. Ken Sugimori's artwork captures the Fairy Pokémon from Mt. Moon in all its round, pink charm, and for plenty of early collectors it was among the first holos they ever pulled.
On the table, Clefairy was sneakier than it looked. Sing puts the Defending Pokémon to sleep on a successful coin flip, and Metronome lets this 40 HP Basic copy any one of the defender's attacks for three Colorless Energy, ignoring that attack's Energy cost and any discard requirement. Facing a Charizard, that meant borrowing Fire Spin's 100 damage without discarding a single Energy card, a trick that made Clefairy a real threat in the earliest days of the game.
The Pokédex entry printed on the card describes it as rare and found only in certain areas, which suits a holo that so many players remember chasing. On a Base Set binder page it fills one of those sixteen holo slots with a character who was there at the very beginning of Pokémon itself.
