Item Description
Charizard needs no introduction, but this Charizard ex deserves one. It is the Darkness-type version from the Scarlet & Violet era, the design that debuted in Obsidian Flames, and its Infernal Reign ability is what makes it so thrilling to play: when you play it from your hand to evolve one of your Pokémon, you may search your deck for up to 3 Basic Fire Energy cards and attach them to your Pokémon in any way you like. That burst of acceleration powers Burning Darkness, which costs two Fire Energy and deals 180 damage plus 30 more for each Prize card your opponent has taken, so this Charizard hits harder the further behind you fall.
With 330 HP as a Stage 2, it is sturdy enough to take a hit and swing back, though as a Pokémon ex it gives up two Prize cards when Knocked Out. Since the first sets of the TCG the fire-breathing favorite has held a singular place in the hobby, chased by collectors and built around by players, and this card carries that legacy into the modern era. This is promo 056 from the SV: Scarlet & Violet Black Star Promo series, illustrated by takuyoa, in foil. Released outside the regular booster sets, it gives Charizard collectors a distinct version to track down alongside the main-set printings.
