Item Description

In the world of Chaotic, the best card players don't just win matches. They get transported to Perim, where the creatures on their cards are real, and with a scanner they can capture those creatures and become them in battle. Chaotic: Shadow Warriors takes that premise from the animated series and trading card game and turns it into a Nintendo DS adventure, developed by Fun Labs and published by Activision in 2009.

Trouble is brewing across Perim, where the four tribes, the OverWorld, UnderWorld, Danians and Mipedians, are locked in their endless struggle for dominance. On the DS you take control of Tom, the show's lead, and explore in real time, carrying a weapon to fend off the small critters that roam each area. Scanning is the heart of the adventure, just as it is on the show: every creature you scan joins your deck, and with more than forty creatures to find, each with its own strengths and weaknesses, poking into every corner of Perim pays off with new options for the fights ahead.

When a larger creature blocks your path, the game shifts into battles that follow the logic of the card game: turn-based duels where you build combinations of creatures, Mugic and Battlegear, with the creatures brought to life in 3D animation. Progress through the story unlocks more cards, widening your options for each matchup.

Chaotic had a passionate following in the late 2000s, and with the series long since finished, its video games are among the few official ways back into Perim. This DS version pairs those duels with real-time exploration of Perim itself, and it is a satisfying find if you once traded Chaotic cards and argued over which tribe was strongest.
