Item Description
Chansey's round, cheerful Ken Sugimori artwork is a snapshot of the Wizards of the Coast era, and her stats made her far tougher than she looks. With 120 HP she could absorb hits that flattened most early Basics, and her Scrunch attack, for two Colorless Energy, flips a coin to prevent all damage done to her during your opponent's next turn. When it was time to hit back, Double-edge dealt 80 damage for four Colorless Energy, with Chansey taking 80 herself, a big swing that could turn a match in a single attack.
Base Set 2, released in 2000, combined favorites from Base Set and Jungle into one 130-card set, giving players who missed the first wave another chance at its holos. This is the Base Set 2 printing, collector number 3/130, illustrated by Ken Sugimori, in holofoil. The card keeps the Pokédex line that sums up her charm: "A rare and elusive Pokémon that is said to bring happiness to those who manage to catch it." Its Base Set 2 numbering sets it apart from the original 3/102, so it pairs nicely with that card in a Chansey or early-WotC collection.
