Item Description

Champions of Norrath is one of the finest action RPGs the PlayStation 2 ever produced, and it remains a beloved standout in the EverQuest universe that Snowblind Studios brought to life with remarkable depth and energy. Released in 2004, it drew from the rich lore of Norrath — the same sprawling fantasy world underpinning Sony's landmark PC MMO — and distilled it into a Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance-style dungeon crawler that felt both accessible and genuinely rewarding. The result was a game that earned a devoted following and still gets talked about warmly by anyone who sank hours into it.

You choose from five distinct character classes — Wood Elf Ranger, Dark Elf Shadow Knight, Barbarian Warrior, Erudite Wizard, and Half Elf Cleric — each with their own skill trees and playstyles that give the game real replay value. The combat is satisfying and tactile, the loot system is genuinely addictive, and the environments pull you through forests, underground caverns, and ancient ruins with a sense of atmosphere that many games of the era simply couldn't match. Every run feels slightly different depending on how you build your character and what gear drops your way.

Where Champions of Norrath truly shines, though, is in its cooperative multiplayer. Up to four players could link up via LAN or online through the PlayStation 2's network adapter, turning this into an absolute couch co-op classic. Gathering a group to tear through dungeons together elevated an already solid game into something genuinely special, and that shared experience is a huge part of why this title carries such strong nostalgic weight for PS2-era collectors and players alike.

The game's art direction holds up beautifully — dark, detailed, and dripping with high fantasy atmosphere. Snowblind put real craft into the world-building, and you can feel the influence of the EverQuest universe in every zone and enemy design. It was followed by a sequel, Champions: Return to Arms, but many fans consider this original entry the purest expression of what the series set out to do.

Champions of Norrath is a perfect pick for PS2 collectors, action RPG enthusiasts, fans of the EverQuest setting, or anyone chasing that golden era of co-op dungeon crawlers. Whether you're revisiting it or discovering it for the first time, it holds up as one of the most satisfying games the system has to offer.
