Magic: The Gathering single: Champion of the Perished, from Buy-a-Box Promos. Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.

Item Description

Few one-drops reward a theme as quickly as Champion of the Perished. For a single black mana you get a 1/1 Zombie that gets a +1/+1 counter whenever another Zombie enters under your control. Every token, every reanimated creature and every Zombie cast from your hand makes it bigger, and the counters stay put.

That makes it a top early play in Zombie typal decks. Cards that create several Zombie tokens at once add a counter for each one, so a single spell can turn the Champion from a 1/1 into a real threat. In Commander it is a natural fit for decks led by Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver or Gisa, Glorious Resurrector, where Zombies enter in waves.

This is the Buy-a-Box promo printing from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt, collector number 385, illustrated by Daarken, an extended-art foil. Buy-a-Box promos went to players who purchased a booster box from their local game store, and Daarken's alternate art sets this version apart from the standard Kekai Kotaki card in the main set.
