Complete in box: the cartridge, the manual and the box, all original; anything beyond that is included only if you can see it in the photos. This copy comes in the original cardboard box packaging. Look over the photos for condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.
In 1917, with Europe tearing itself apart in the Great War, the Belmonts are nowhere to be found, and the job of stopping Dracula falls to someone new. Castlevania: Bloodlines was Konami's one and only Castlevania for the Genesis, and it carried that responsibility with real swagger. Countess Elizabeth Bartley, Dracula's niece, is scheming to resurrect him, and her trail leads across a continent at war.
You choose your hunter. John Morris, son of Quincy Morris from Bram Stoker's novel and heir to the Belmont line, carries the Vampire Killer whip and can use it to swing from ceilings. Eric Lecarde wields the Alucard Spear, with longer reach and a charged super jump that opens different routes through the stages. Those six stages are a European tour of the macabre: the ruins of Castlevania in Romania, a sunken shrine of Atlantis in Greece, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, a munitions factory in Germany, the Palace of Versailles and a final castle in England. Konami used them to show off what the Genesis could do, with eerie mirror reflections at Versailles and a tower in Italy that warps and tilts as you climb.
Bloodlines is also gorier than its 16-bit siblings, true to its name, and the soundtrack is among the finest on the console. It was scored by a team that included Michiru Yamane, who would go on to compose Symphony of the Night, and the Genesis sound chip gives its gothic melodies a hard, metallic bite that suits the wartime setting.
The game left a lasting mark on the series. Its Morris family thread was picked up years later in Portrait of Ruin on the Nintendo DS, which stars John's son Jonathan, and a new generation found it through the Castlevania Anniversary Collection. The Genesis cartridge, though, is where it all started, the moment Sega fans finally got a Castlevania of their own, and a fast, brutal, stylish one that holds its ground next to the series' best.
Time refuses to forget the Belmont family's horrifying, bloody destiny. And in 1917 two of its descendants are summoned by fate into epic battle. Their enemy? The most evil incarnation of Castlevania legacy to ever rise from the grave, the vampiress Countess Bartley. This spine-tingling, 6-stage fear-fest overflows with graphic sights and sounds from your worst nightmares. As John Morris, the whip wielding vampire hunter, or Eric Lecarde, master lanceman, you'll pursue the demonic Countess all across Europe before she resurrects Dracula for a final reign of global terror. Alas, her trail of doom is laden with zombies, hideous mutants, grotesque giants, ghouls and ghastly creatures. Taste the sweat dripping into your mouth as you try rescuing yourself from diabolical traps. Feel the torturous strain on every muscle as you wield again and again sacred weapon power-ups such as Holy Water, the Battle Axe, the Crystal Blade Boomerang and the Mirror of Truth. But in the end, make sure you've saved enough strength to scream!
