Item Description
Carpet of Flowers has spent decades as green's way of punishing blue players, and this version dresses it in Final Fantasy colors. For one green mana, at the beginning of each of your main phases it can add mana of any one color equal to the number of Islands a target opponent controls. Against a blue-heavy opponent that is a startling amount of free ramp from a turn-one play.
The fine print matters. Carpet counts Islands by land type, not just basics, so dual lands and other nonbasics with the Island subtype add to the total. It checks at the beginning of each of your main phases, so if you skip the mana before combat you can take it in your second main phase instead, though it only produces mana once per turn. And because you choose the target opponent each time, multiplayer games almost always give you someone worth pointing it at.
This is the Final Fantasy: Through the Ages printing, collector number 44, a borderless non-foil rare. Through the Ages cards showcase artwork from across the franchise's history, and this one uses Final Fantasy XIII source art credited to Isamu Kamikokuryo, the game's art director, laid across the full card in an edge-to-edge frame. It is an easy upgrade for a green Commander deck, and a real treat for anyone who spent time on Gran Pulse and Cocoon.
