Item Description

The woods bite back in Cabela's Outdoor Adventures. Part of Activision's long-running Cabela's series, this GameCube release combines hunting and fishing across 11 locations, and some of the 32 animals you track are not content to wait for your shot. Bears, wolves, moose, bobcats, lynx and coyotes can all turn on a careless hunter, which gives the slow stalk a real edge of danger.

The quarry ranges from deer to bears and moose, and when you want a break from the hunt you can stop at the water and fish. Several thousand pieces of real Cabela's gear let you outfit your hunter exactly the way you like, and vehicles help you cover the bigger maps. Stealth, strategy and technique matter far more than fast reflexes.

The game is built around 22 adventures across North America and beyond, and an Open Season mode drops you straight into a deer hunt with random gear and a bag limit to fill, a quick test of how well you can make do with what you are given. Three difficulty settings, Greenhorn, Sportsmen and Simulation, let you choose between an easygoing outing and a demanding one.

Reviewers at the time singled out its animal behavior and its value, and on the GameCube it offers something the console rarely did: a patient, methodical outdoor simulation. Hunters, anglers and players who want a slower rhythm from their games will find it a satisfying expedition.
