Item Description

Bullworth Academy might be the worst school in New England, and that is exactly what makes it such a great place to spend a year. Rockstar's 2006 open-world adventure for the PlayStation 2 drops fifteen-year-old Jimmy Hopkins at the gates of this crumbling boarding school after his mother leaves on yet another honeymoon, and it is quickly clear that the place runs on cliques, pranks and a headmaster, Dr. Crabblesnitch, more interested in appearances than in his students. Jimmy's only allies early on are the nervous Petey Kowalski and the manipulative Gary Smith, who turns out to be anything but a friend.

The school is a social map to conquer. The Bullies, Preppies, Nerds, Greasers and Jocks each rule their own corner of campus, while the Townies prowl outside the gates, and the story has Jimmy work his way through them one chapter at a time, earning respect with his fists, his slingshot and an arsenal of stink bombs, firecrackers and marbles. Prefects patrol the halls to bust you for fighting, skipping class or breaking curfew. Classes play out as quick mini-games that pay off in the wider world: Chemistry lets you brew your own pranks, Gym sharpens your fighting moves, and English improves your ability to talk your way out of trouble.

Beyond campus lies the town of Bullworth, with its rich-kid neighborhoods, run-down industrial park and carnival, all reachable by bike or skateboard, plus go-kart races and endless errands. The calendar moves through the school year too, from a chaotic Halloween night of pranks to snow-covered winter grounds. Shawn Lee's quirky score ties it all together with a mischievous charm.

Developed by Rockstar Vancouver, Bully weathered a storm of pre-release controversy and turned out to be one of Rockstar's warmest, funniest games, with sharp writing and real heart under the mischief. This Greatest Hits release, Sony's label for games that sold strongly, reflects how many players found that out. The PS2 original is where Jimmy's story began, and the rare Rockstar world where the stakes are detention rather than murder.
