Item Description

The cycle was supposed to be over. Blasphemous II wakes the Penitent One once more as the Miracle stirs again, and sends him into a perilous new world to end the curse for good. The Game Kitchen's 2023 sequel keeps everything that made the original so memorable, the macabre Spanish religious iconography, the hand-drawn pixel art and the punishing combat, then opens up the toolkit dramatically.

The biggest change is the arsenal. The original's single sword, Mea Culpa, gives way to three weapons, and you choose one to begin your journey. Ruego al Alba is a balanced blade with a ground pound and a temporary rage state; Sarmiento y Centella pairs a rapier with a parrying dagger and builds lightning damage as long as you keep landing hits without being struck; and Veredicto is a massive censer-headed flail that can be set alight for fire damage. Each weapon also doubles as a key to the world. Veredicto rings great bells that open gates and raise platforms, Sarmiento y Centella strikes mirrors that teleport you, and Ruego al Alba shatters certain surfaces, so fully exploring the map means mastering all three.

Build options deepen too. Rosary Beads and Prayers return, joined by the Altarpiece of Favours, a set of carved figures mounted on the Penitent One's back that grant offensive and utility boosts and unlock a powerful bonus for one weapon when you equip enough of the matching type. Enemies mix melee and ranged attacks more aggressively, bosses are faster and deadlier than before, and 33 hidden Cherubs wait to be freed, many tucked behind tricky double-jump and climbing challenges.

The art is even more detailed than the first game's, cutscenes now use traditional hand-drawn animation, and the soundtrack keeps its flamenco guitar while adding darker, percussion-driven boss themes. On Switch it makes a gripping portable Metroidvania, and it lands hardest after the original, picking up the Penitent One's story where his first pilgrimage left off.
