Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Birthing Pod turns every creature in your deck into a stepping stone. For one generic mana plus green mana or 2 life, you tap it and sacrifice a creature to search your library for a creature card with mana value exactly one higher and put it straight onto the battlefield. A two-drop becomes a three-drop, the three-drop becomes a four, and a deck built with a smooth curve can climb all the way to its best threat while collecting enters- and dies-trigger value at every rung.
The Phyrexian mana in both its cost and its activation means you can pay life instead of green mana, which helps it fit decks well outside mono-green. In Commander it is a toolbox dream, chaining utility creatures into exactly the answer or finisher you need, and the sorcery-speed activation makes planning the chain part of the puzzle.
This is the Secret Lair 30th Anniversary Countdown Kit printing, collector number 2011, a borderless card illustrated by Wooden Cyclops, in non-foil. The Countdown Kit celebrated Magic's 30th birthday with one card for each year of the game's history, and Birthing Pod stands in for 2011, the year New Phyrexia introduced it, which is why its collector number matches the year.
