Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Basal Sliver hands every Sliver on the battlefield a self-destruct button that pays out in mana. Each Sliver gains the ability to sacrifice itself for two black mana, turning your hive into a bank of ritual effects you can cash in whenever you need a burst of mana or a creature in the graveyard.
That makes it a quiet powerhouse in Sliver Commander decks. A Sliver targeted by exile or a steal effect can be sacrificed in response, death triggers and sacrifice payoffs suddenly have a free outlet, and a well-timed sacrifice can power out a huge spell a turn early. There is a catch worth knowing: the ability goes to all Slivers, including ones your opponents control, so Sliver mirrors and copy effects cut both ways. It first appeared in Stronghold in 1998, early in the hive's long history.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 629, an extended-art foil illustrated by Drew Tucker and issued as a Secret Lair bonus card. The extended frame stretches the creature across the whole card, and the flavor text has master breeder Endrek Sahr marveling at a creature that combines tenacity with purposeful self-destruction.
